Due to the transportation of invasive insects and diseases in firewood, trees all across the nation are being destroyed. Nonnative insects, such as the Asian longhorned beetle, can be transported across long distances in our firewood. The diseases and insects that present a problem to our forests are destroying trees in vast numbers each year.
One of the most important steps that we can take to help protect the trees is to not move firewood. Instead, use firewood from local sources. By not transporting firewood across parks, we diminish the risk of moving invasive pests and diseases into new areas. Remember, trees are not only crucial to our parks, but they are also crucial to our lives because they clean our air.
